Mead is a full-day farm that can absorb a birthday without the whole thing depending on sunshine: animals, outdoor play and a large indoor barn. It is an easy recommendation for mixed ages from toddlers to late primary, which is exactly the guest list most people actually have. Book the party package rather than turning up with supermarket pizza and hoping a table is free.

Parking

On-site car park. Hertfordshire Saturday traffic on the A414 can eat the 'it's only 20 minutes' promise — put a meeting time 15 minutes before the party slot.

Food and drink for the adults

The farm restaurant is part of the day. Use it. Parents who are offered a proper lunch stay cheerful; parents who are offered a bench and a baby wipe do not.

Good to know

Check whether the package is hosted and what happens to younger siblings who are not 'party children'. Farms often charge them as day visitors.
